Most people fall into one of two camps: those who see life as a GIFT, and those who see life as a burden. Regardless of outside circumstances, folks are either satisfied with what they have or they’re living their lives from a sense of deprivation.
Gratitude is a powerful feeling that balances, heals, energizes, and improves life. You could say that it’s an affirmation of goodness in the world.
Life may not be unfolding to your liking, but as a whole, there are a lot of good things to like. As A.A. Milne once wrote: “Even weeds are flowers, once you get to know them.”
The act of practicing and being aware of gratitude provides an opportunity to see where goodness comes from. Challenge yourself to see that other people did things for you or other forces helped you by doing what you could not do for yourself and when you acknowledge there must be a giver behind the gift, see that the source of goodness arises from outside the self.
With the knowledge borne from gratitude, all of life becomes a gift. Acts of generosity and compassion feed the feeling and all are uplifted in the process.
Take a look around you, then take a quiet moment and look inward – what brings you the gift of gratitude?
